Premierminister Ehud Olmert erklärte die jährliche Sitzung des Aufsichtsrats der jüdischen Agentur für Israel am Sonntag, dem 22. Juni, das ist es Zeit, die Ausgabe von aliyah für Diasporah Juden beiseite zu setzen und konzentriert sich auf jüdische Ausbildung und Selbst-identität. Herr Olmert unterstrich, daß eine Majorität Juden der Welt jetzt im jüdischen Zustand leben, zum ersten Mal seit der Zerstörung des zweiten Bügels.

Israel Radio reported this on Sunday, noting that the cost per unit of these 51-km.-range Taiwanese-made scrambled cellular phones is $2,000, and that the Hamas force is being transformed into a regular army.

Dozens of white Europeans have trained in terrorist camps in Pakistan’s tribal regions in recent months, U.S. intelligence sources said. Government officials suspect the terrorists, recruited in Europe, have been dispatched to plan attacks against Europe and possibly the U.S. The terrorists hail from Britain, the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Romania and Estonia, sources said.
HAMAS SAYS SMUGGLING TO GAZA WILL CONTINUE :
Smuggling into Gaza will not stop, Hamas leader Ismail Haniya told worshippers before Friday prayers. Reacting to Haniya’s remarks, Mark Regev, a spokesman for Israeli Prime Minister Olmert, underlined that the Egyptian-brokered truce explicitly stated that arms smuggling must halt. “The agreement with Egypt states clearly that there must not be any contraband arms heading for Gaza and no attacks from Gaza towards Israeli territory by any of the armed groups.”

Four Kassam rockets hit the western Negev on Tuesday afternoon, in a second Palestinian violation of the Egyptian-brokered cease-fire in Gaza that went into effect last Thursday. Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was to avenge an IDF arrest raid in the West Bank early Tuesday that killed one of its members. Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said the rocket attack “came as result of Israeli provocation this morning.”

Jewish groups from around the world are meeting in London to highlight the plight of Jews who left their homes in Arab nations after Israel was founded. The conference organizers, Justice for Jews, say they want to ensure the story of Jewish refugees is told, alongside that of Palestinians. Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni has chosen Gabriela Shalev as Israel’s first female ambassador to the United Nations. Shalev, the rector of the Ono Academic College and a contract law specialist, will replace Dan Gillerman, who has held this position for over 5 years.
UNEXPECTED DELAY IN THE TESTING OF THE IRON DOME ANTI-MISSILE SYSTEM :
Israeli officials on Tuesday June 24, said there would be a surprise delay in the testing schedule for the Iron Dome anti-missile system, which is desperately needed to defend against Kassam and Katyusha rocket attacks. The test regime has been pushed up to next month. The system is expected to cost around $300 million and uses a small kinetic missile interceptor to stop oncoming rockets. It is set to be initially deployed outside Gaza and on the northern border by 2010. According to a Defense News report, the Bush Administration is contemplating giving $200 million towards the Iron Dome system.

Jordan is in an uproar over the revival of the “Jordanian option” - the thesis that Jordan is the true home to the “Palestinians.” Reports that a top advisor to US Presidential candidate John McCain is promoting this idea have led to a flurry of press reports in the Arab media, as well as a denial from Jordan’s King Abdullah himself. Some officials in Israel and the United States, however, feel it’s the only way to prevent the formation of a Palestinian state.

Street closings and traffic jams are scheduled in Jerusalem twice over the next two days - 25-27, once for the Bridge of Strings dedication and once for the gay march. The Bridge of Strings (Gesher HaMeitarim in Hebrew), is scheduled to carry the light rail mass transit system over the busy entrance to Jerusalem, while serving as the icon of a new, modern gateway to the holy city. The S-shaped bridge is supported totally by 66 half-centimeter cables stemming from a single, 118-meter (390-foot) tall column. Publicists say it evokes the strings of King David’s harp, “a fitting image for the holy city.”

Egypt assured Israel on Tuesday June 24, that the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt will remain closed until a deal is reached that secures the release of Israel Defense Forces soldier Gilad Shalit, a senior Israeli official said after meetings in Sharm el-Sheikh between Prime Minister Olmert and Egyptian President Mubarak.

Israel’s latest proposal includes an agreement to free 150 terrorists with “blood on their hands,” on the condition they do not return to the Palestinian Authority territories or Gaza, Voice of Israel government radio reported Thursday morning June 26. The proposed release of the murderers would be part of a larger deal that would include nearly 1,000 terrorists and other Palestinian Authority prisoners in exchange for Shalit.

For the third time in a week, Palestinian Authority terrorists violated the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire with Israel early Thursday afternoon June 26 . Prime Minister Ehud Omert’s spokesman Mark Regev told Israel National News that no decisions had yet been on a response to that attack “We’ll wait and see. Obviously we’ll be having discussions,” he said. Israel limited its retaliation to the previous attacks by closing the Gaza crossings for two days, which had been opened in accordance with the agreement. There were also mortar fire attacks .

Saudi authorities have arrested and detained 520 people so far this year who are suspected of having links to al-Qaeda, the Saudi Interior Ministry said Wednesday June 25. An Israeli entrepreneur is harnessing the sun’s energy in an industrial park in the northern Negev, where he plans to refine the technology and then replicate it in California’s Mojave Desert. The field of 1,640 robotic mirrors, called heliostats, looks a little like a mechanical rock concert in action when the sun rises in the morning. Each mirror is slightly larger than a ping pong table and is controlled by a computer; the tables turn toward the sun as it moves through the sky. The mirrors focus the sun’s rays on the point of a 200-foot tower where a water boiler is to produce high-pressure steam. The system is designed to produce up to 900 megawatts of clean, renewable energy for the State of California in the next decade, enough to power 540,000 homes per year.

Ha’aretz has calculated that in the first four months of the year, German exports to Iran increased by around 18% from the same period last year In the first four months of 2008, Germany exported to Iran 1.35 billion euros worth of merchandise, consisting of chemical and iron products, cars, engines and engineering equipment.
