Since the end of the Second Lebanon War, Hizbullah has built a massive underground infrastructure south of the Litani River under the noses of UNIFIL, Brig.-Gen. Yossi Baidatz, head of Military Intelligence’s Research Division, told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Tuesday June 17. Despite UN Resolution 1701 (which ruled that no military forces could be deployed south of the river and that Hizbullah must disarm), Hizbullah has maintained and even strengthened its presence in the very areas from which the IDF sought to remove them in summer 2006. According to Baidatz, the Iranian-sponsored terror group has smuggled tens of thousands of rockets and has brought thousands of fighters to the area.

ARMY OF ISLAM TERRROISTS KILLED IN AIR ATTACKS:
IDF aerial attacks were carried out Tuesday June 17,against Army of Islam terrorists in Gaza involved in recent attempts to execute a large-scale terror attack against Israeli targets. Among the terrorists killed were Ma’ataz Dagmesh, 29, Mahmud Shandi, 25, and Muhamad Asaliya, 21. Dagmesh, whose brother is the organization leader, was the leader and planner of the thwarted terror attack. Asaliya served as a terror attack planner. Israel to decide on initiative during last stage of truce
Israel is considering a proposal by Egypt to deploy a multinational Arab force in Gaza as a final stage of the cease-fire agreement with Hamas that went into effect this morning, according to a senior IDF official involved in the truce negotiations.

IDF KILLS ROCKET-LAUNCHER MOMENTS BEFORE TRUCE:
Moments before the cease-fire in Gaza went into effect this morning, a Hamas operative was killed and two others were wounded during an IAF strike, said Palestinian reports. The IDF said that it had targeted a Qassam rocket squad preparing to fire near the Bureij refugee camp in Central Gaza. Palestinians in Gaza fired 30 Kassam rockets at Israeli communities on Wednesday, wounding one woman.Meanwhile, at least 12 terror suspects in the West Bank were arrested overnight and an IDF officer was wounded when he was shot during an arrest in Nablus.

By an 8-4 vote, the Knesset House Committee passed on Wednesday morning June 18, an early version of a law requiring a popular referendum before the Golan could be given away. The proposal is now ready to be voted on in the full Knesset plenum for its first reading. If it passes, it must be transferred back to the Committee for last-minute changes and a vote, and if it passes that hurdle, it will be voted on for a final time in the Kneset. The bill states that no referendum is necessary if at least 80 MKs - two-thirds of the Knesset - support the retreat. If a majority of less than 2/3 supports a withdrawal, the retreat must be approved in a popular referendum before becoming law.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Thursday that Iran was ready to negotiate over a new package of economic incentives put forward by major powers seeking to persuade Tehran to curb its nuclear work. “We have informed them of our readiness to negotiate. Mottaki said. “We also have what we call the Iranian package which we have sent to the P5+1 countries and we hope they consider it as we consider theirs,” added Mottaki. “We will review the package but not the part about an enrichment freeze,” an Iranian official said on Thursday. According to Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Israel and Hamas are on a collision course and apparently, in the end, there will be no getting around a military operation in Gaza. However, since the repercussions of an operation could be grave, it is necessary first to try the other alternative - so that every mother of an Israeli soldier, every Israeli civilian in the Gaza envelope, and Egyptian President Mubarak will know that Israel did not choose a military move before giving a chance to a diplomatic move. THREE ISRAELI HIKERS WOUNDED IN TERRORIST SHOOTING NEAR RAMALLAH :
While an uneasy calm continued on the Gaza border on Friday June 20, three Israelis were seriously wounded, one seriously, in a terrorist shooting attack on a group of hikers in a valley northwest of Ramallah in the West Bank. According to the hikers, two masked terrorists approached them in a vehicle, fired at them from close range and then sped away.

IAF SAID TO HAVE HELD A N DRILL FOR STRIKE ON IRAN:
US officials have told The New York Times that Israel carried out a large military drill during the first week of June that appeared to be a rehearsal for a bombing mission against Iran’s nuclear sites. At least 100 Israeli F-16 and F-15 fighter jets were involved in the exercises carried out over the eastern Mediterranean and Greece, which focused on long-range air skills. The exercises were so extensive, Washington believes they were meant to be picked up by other Western intelligence agencies as a demonstration that Israel was prepared to act militarily if diplomatic efforts to stop Iran from developing a uranium nuclear weapon fail. “They wanted us to know, they wanted the Europeans to know, and they wanted the Iranians to know,” one Pentagon official said.

HIZBULLAH PLANNING ATTACKS ON JEWISH TARGETS IN CANADA:
According to US and Canadian intelligence reports on Thursday June 19, Hizbullah had activated four ’sleeper cells’ in Canada and top terror operatives have left Lebanon for the US, Canada and Africa in what might be an imminent attack on global Jewish targets. However, when the Labor ministers received notes from Olmert stating that he intends to fire them, the Labor ministers quickly left the Cabinet meeting to consult once again with Barak about their next steps. Such a development would leave them out of the government during the crucial months preceding new elections.

COURT : GAZA CROSSING REMAIN CLOSED FOR NOW by Hana Levi Julian
The High Court of Justice has ordered the government to keep the Gaza Crossings closed for the time being and told Major-General (res.) Amos Gilad, head the of the Defense Ministry’s Security-Diplomatic Bureau, to meet with the Shalit family. The Shalit family petitioned the Court over the weekend to block implementation of the ceasefire agreement and keep the Gaza crossings closed until their son is freed by Hamas and other terrorists, who kidnapped him near the Kerem Shalom Crossing two years ago.
