KUNTAR PLEDGE TO NASRALLAH: I SHALL CONTINUE IN THE PATH TO TERRORISM: by Hana Levi Julian
Samir Kuntar, the star terrorist in the continuing drama over negotiations with Hizbullah terrorists, pledged in a recent letter to the group’s leader Hassan Nasrallah his intention to continue the path of terror if and when he is freed. Kuntar was responsible for the murders of four Israelis, including two toddlers, during an attack he led on Nahariyah in 1979. The brutality of the attack inspired the judge to sentence the terrorist to one of the longest prison sentences ever handed down in the Jewsh State. Kuntar, who belonged at the time to the Palestine Liberation Front terrorist group, first murdered 28-year-old Dani Haran, then crushed his 4-year-old daughter Eynat’s skull with his rifle butt. He then killed a police officer. Eynat’s 2-year-old sister Yael also died in the attack, accidentally suffocated to death by her terrified mother while hiding during from Kuntar.

GOVERNMENT BUDGETS 2 BILLION NIS FOR WATER SHORTAGE: by Hillel Fendel
Infrastructures Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer says that Israel’s water troubles are all but solved, now that the government has approved his two-billion shekel program. The government voted to pass the four-step program at its weekly meeting on Sunday. The four elements of the program are as follows:
1. 120 million shekels for water conservation activities, such as promoting water conservation awareness and a new water price schedule. 2. 915 million shekels over the next five years for water recycling 3. Increasing desalinated water to 600 million cubic meters by 2013, and to 750 million cubic meters by 2020. Currently, 138 million cubic meters are desalinated yearly in Ashkelon and environs, and a plant in Hadera is being built that can process another 100 million 4. The establishment of a government task force staffed by members of the Finance, Infrastructures and Justice Ministries.

MONDAY JUNE 2 BEGAN WITH ARAB ATTACKS ON JEWS: by Hana Levi Julian
Palestinian Authority Arabs started off the day by attacking Israelis in various locations. In northern Gaza, terrorists attacked IDF soldiers. The attackers fired anti-tank missiles and automatic weapons in the exchange, but no soldiers were injured. In the Samaria region, PA Arabs pelted an Egged bus near the Samarian town of Hizme. A few hours earlier, an Egged bus was hit by a barrage of rocks hurled by Arabs from inside a schoolyard as it passed a village northeast of Ramallah. An Israeli car with several passengers flipped over near the Hawara checkpoint south of Shechem, also in Samaria. The accident apparently occurred due to a rock trap placed on the road by Arab attackers.

IDF ARRESTS TERRORISTS: By Hillel Fendel
Overnight June 1, IDF soldiers arrested five fugitive PA Arabs who were wanted for alleged involvement in terrorist activities. Two of the suspects were caught in the PA-controlled Samarian city of Kalkilya. The other three were arrested in Judea; two were picked up in Bethlehem and one was arrested in a village near Hevron. Police also caught two PA Arabs late Sunday night after the pair escaped a detention facility in Beit Govrin. Both had been arrested for illegally crossing the pre-1967 border without a permit. The Judea and Samaria security barrier prevented the two from escaping directly into the PA-controlled territory and they were caught as they made their way along the wall towards Hevron. Police returned the pair to detention.

OLMERT DEPARTS FOR USA WITHOUT SETTING DATE FOR KADIMA PRIMARIES:
Before leaving for the US on Tuesday June 3, embattled Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was expected to publicly acknowledge the need for Kadima primaries as part of his ‘graceful exit’ from office, but instead he struck a familiar defiant tone in the midst of his latest corruption scandal.

ANTI-AIRCRAFT MISSILES FOUND IN SINAI, HEADED FOR GAZA:
Egyptian authorities uncovered an arms cache in Sinai on Saturday May 31, that contained 30 anti-aircraft missiles en route to Gaza. Egyptian forces said hand grenades, RPG launchers, rifles, and ammunition were among the weapons stash discovered only 80 km south of the Rafah border crossing into Gaza, while another discovery of sacks of explosives was made soon after just 3.5 km from Gaza.

An explosion in the house of Hamas militant Nader Abu Shaban killed him and wounded 16 of his relatives and neighbors, Gaza health officials said Saturday May 31. Hamas officials say Abu Shaban was handling explosives just before the blast.

PUTIN:NUKES IN THE MIDDLE EAST MEANS THE PALESTINIANS WOULD CEASE TO EXIST:
Iran is not trying to acquire nuclear weapons but Tehran should avoid “irritating” its neighbors, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Saturday May 31, in an interview with the French newspaper Le Monde. Asked if Iran was trying to acquire nuclear weapons, Putin replied: “I don’t believe so. Nothing indicates it…” Putin stressed that Russia was opposed to Iran achieving a nuclear-power status. “That is our principled position,” he said. “Using nuclear weapons in a region as small as the Middle East would be synonymous with suicide. Whose interests would it serve? The Palestinians? Hardly, the Palestinians would cease to exist.” (AFP/Yahoo)

AHMADINEJAD CLAIMS EUROPE SUFFERING DUE TO ‘FALSE ZIONIST REGIME’ :
During his controversial visit to Rome attend the United Nations summit on global food security on Tuesday June 6, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad continued his verbal assault on Israel of recent days, charging that the “false Zionist regime” was a political and economic burden to Europe and would soon disappear. Ahmadinejad later warned Israel is “doomed to go” with or without Iranian involvement. A request for a papal audience that was turned down by Pope Benedict XVI. Embarrassed Italian officials have also dropped him from the summit’s gala closing event.

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak told his Labor faction on Monday June 2, that, “elections can certainly be held this year, meaning by the end of 2008…” Transportation Minister Sha’ul Mofaz, remembered for insisting that he had no plans to leave the Likud just two days before he joined Kadima, is making no secret of his desire to become Prime Minister.

Attacks on Christian targets and those identified with Western culture have grown more frequent in Gaza in the past two years. The targets have included churches, Christian and United Nations schools, the American International School, libraries and Internet cafes. The most recent incident occurred this past Saturday, May 31, when gunmen attacked the guards at the Al Manara school, stole a vehicle belonging to the Baptist Holy Book Society which operates the school and threatened the society’s director.

Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) and Israel Police operatives arrested three young Arab men from Lod in April and May of this year for conspiring to abduct and murder an IDF soldier in order to bargain for the release of Palestinian Authority security prisoners. The three planned to video the abducted soldier, murder him and hide his body. All three terrorists-in-training, 20-year-old Amir Nafar (studying Sharia at a Jordanian university), 26-year-old Iman Kadura and 19-year-old Yassin Hinawi, hold Israeli citizenship and are members of the Islamic Movement

SYRIA TO MEET WITH WEAPONS INSPECTORS ON SITE BOMBED BY ISRAEL - Robin Wright
Syria has agreed to allow the UN nuclear watchdog agency access to the al-Kibar site on the Euphrates River, but has turned down the IAEA’s request to go to at least three other facilities that U.S. intelligence says may be connected to a reactor and a clandestine nuclear weapons program.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Monday June 2, that Israel has identified signs of distress coming from Hamas. Some 70 Hamas fighters have been killed during the last two months, and more than 300 have been killed during the past six months, he said. “Hamas is very stressed. The most effective action is the siege.” (Ha’aretz)

EGYPTIANS FIGHTING ISRAELI UPGRADE WITH EU : - Barak Ravid
Egypt has recently been attempting to thwart a proposed agreement to upgrade Israel’s relationship with the EU. The proposed deal would significantly improve Israeli access to European markets, and could add billions of dollars to Israel’s economy.. Senior Israeli Foreign Ministry officials warned their Egyptian counterparts that Israel views this effort very gravely and wants it stopped. Israel’s assessment, a senior government official said, is that the Egyptian campaign constitutes retaliation for a U.S. Congress decision to freeze up to $200 million in American military aid to Egypt. Cairo blames Israel for this freeze, because Israel has frequently complained to Washington about Egypt’s failure to combat arms smuggling into Gaza.

During his keynote address at the annual policy conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in Washington on Tuesday June 3, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert emphasized that a nuclear Iran must be be halted “by all possible means” and suggested Israel was considering a wide-scale attack against the Hamas terror militia in Gaza.

Bar Ilan University political scientist Dr. Mordechai Kedar said on the pro-Hamas Al Jazeera television network, “Jews were in Jerusalem while Muslims were drinking alcohol.” In a heated debate with the narrator, he added, “We don’t need your permission to build” in the capital. Dr. Kedar, said that Jerusalem was the capital of Israel 3,000 years ago. His reference to Muslims drinking alcohol, which is forbidden in their religion, infuriated the host. Kedar also made the point, “Jerusalem is not mentioned even once in the Koran. Jerusalem is a Jewish city.” He labeled Al Jazeera “the mouthpiece of the Muslim Brotherhood,” the radical terrorist party that is gaining popularity in Egypt.

ASSAD: 1967 BORDERS STRETCH TO TIBERIAS: (Reuters)

Defense Minister Ehud Barak, who toured Israel’s northern border Tuesday June 3, said that Hizbullah is setting up fortified positions in villages along the Israel-Lebanon border while continuing to grow stronger and collect weapons. He said Hizbullah is also setting up positions in 150 villages deep within southern Lebanon.

MAN KILLED IN ROCKET ATTACK FROM GAZA: by Hillel Fendel
Arab terrorists in Gaza fired a rocket shortly before noon on June 5, which slammed into a factory in Kibbutz Nir Oz in southern Israel, killing a worker. Several other people were wounded, including one in moderate condition. Kibbutz Nir Oz is located some 25 kilometers southwest of Sderot, meaning the deadly rocket was fired from near the former Jewish towns of Gush Katif in Gaza.

Hamas terrorists threatened on Wednesday June 4 to storm the Rafiah Crossing, which straddles the border between Egypt and Gaza. Senior Hamas official Osama al-Muzini warned that public protests would result in another breach in the border, similar to that which occurred in January, when Hamas terrorists blew up a 200-meter stretch of the barrier separating Gaza from Egypt. The Hamas men said they have nothing left to lose!

LABOR PARTY ANGLING FOR NOVEMBER ELECTIONS:
Seven Israeli cabinet ministers from the Labor Party convened on Thursday June 5, and decided to support Likud MK Silvan Shalom’s bill to disperse the Knesset and set a November date for new elections.

Amidst reports that President George W. Bush is considering taking military action against Iran, the U.S. Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell paid a rare visit to Israel Tuesday June 3, for talks with heads of the Israeli intelligence community.
