ΤΟ ΔΙΚΑΣΤΗΡΙΟ ΠΑΡΑΔΙΔΕΙ ΤΙΣ ΚΑΤΑΔΙΚΕΣ ΣΕ ΙΣΌΒΙΑ ΣΕ 4 ΑΡΑΒΕΣ: από τη Hana Levi Julian
Ένα στρατιωτικό δικαστήριο IDF βόρεια της Ιερουσαλήμ καταδίκασε τέσσερις τρομοκράτες από την περιοχή Hevron στη φυλάκιση ζωής Τρίτη βράδυ 11 Μαρτίου. Τα τέσσερα σκότωσαν έξι Εβραίους σε μία σειρά των επιθέσεων. Η ομάδα τρόμου δημιουργήθηκε από Baher Shakib Awiwi, ένας προμηθευτής ενδυμάτων, μαζί με Moussa Ibrahim Wazuz, το οποίο υιοθετήθηκε σε ένα γραφείο παρέχει το κατάστημα, και Kassem Farid Jaber. Η κυβέρνηση τον απελευθέρωσε πάλι Νοεμβρίου 2006. Έπειτα «αμέσως» επέστρεψε στην τρομοκρατική δραστηριότητα, συμμετέχοντας στην καθιέρωση ενός ισλαμικού κυττάρου τζιχάντ στην περιοχή Jenin. Οι στρατιώτες IDF συνέλαβαν 12 θέλησαν τους τρομοκράτες Τρίτη νύχτα 11 Μαρτίου.

IAF ATTACK WOUNDS FOUR GAZA TERRORISTS:
IAF warplanes successfully hit a rocket launching terrorist cell in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza on Tuesday evening March 18, local Arabs reported. Four Islamic Jihad terrorists were wounded in the attack, two of them critically. The strike was the first since Saturday night, when IAF pilots hit four Islamic Jihad terrorists as they prepared to fire a rocket from northern Gaza. Three of the four were killed instantly, and the fourth later died of his wounds. According to local Arabs, two of the terrorists were responsible for a rocket attack that badly wounded two young brothers in Sderot, and a third was one of Islamic Jihad’s top propagandists.

SECOND TEMPLE HALF-SHEKEL FOUND IN JERUSALEM DIG: by Ezra HaLevi
A half-shekel coin from the Second Temple was found in excavations in the City of David, just below and east of Jerusalem’s Old City. The upcoming Purim festival features the half-shekel prominently in its observance. The ancient silver coin was discovered in an archaeological excavation that is being conducted in the main Second Temple-era drainage channel of Jerusalem. The coin is of the denomination used during the turbulent Second Temple period to pay the Biblical half-shekel head-tax.

Al-Arabiya reports - 16 months late - that a U.S. weekly will distribute free copies of a book associating Islam with terrorism. Hamas is up in arms. The Al-Arabiya.net site reports that a right-wing U.S. newspaper, Human Events, plans to distribute free copies of a book by Robert Spencer, entitled The Truth About Muhammad: Founder of the World’s Most Intolerant Religion. The Arab site’s report, replete with innuendoes implies that the book is anti-Muslim. Spencer himself responded with cynicism, writing, ‘As for the [sub-]headline of their piece [which reads: “Book is said to contain lies and hate”], I challenge anyone at Al-Arabiya, or anyone anywhere, to substantiate a single lie or hateful statement within the book.” After backing up other claims in his book, Spencer concludes, “The troubling aspect of all this for the folks at Al-Arabiya, as I show by the citations above, is that everything I say in the book is true, and it is they who are either lying or ignorant about what the earliest Islamic texts say about Muhammad.”

IMPORTANT POLL: PALESTINIANS SUPPORT ROCKET ATTACKS & WANT PEACE TALKS TO END: - Ethan Bronner
A new poll conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research shows that an overwhelming majority of Palestinians - 84% - support the attack this month on a Jewish seminary in Jerusalem that killed eight young men, most of them teenagers. The survey also shows that 64% support the firing of rockets on Israeli towns from Gaza and 75% support the end of peace negotiations between Palestinian and Israeli leaders.

As the American economy reverberates with fears that a recession has begun, affluent Gulf states are seizing the opportunity to increase their control of the U.S. economy, leaving some analysts concerned over negative consequences for Israel. “There is concern that the purchase of strategic assets provides the owners with the ability to intervene politically,” said Prof. Gerald Steinberg, chairman of the political studies department at Bar-Ilan University. “The problem is not investment, but control. You could start to see subtle aspects of a boycott [of Israel], even though that is illegal under American law. You might find that some of these firms place obstacles to deals with Israel,” Steinberg said. Petrodollar investment in the U.S. economy was nothing new, Steinberg noted, but “what makes this period potentially different is if it marks a significant decline in American economic power,” leaving the door open to an Arab petrodollar buyout.

Israeli authorities on Tuesday March 18, seized 2,000 cell phones found in the car of senior Palestinian official and Abbas aide Rawhi Fattuh - who enjoys VIP status - as he was returning from Jordan, IDF military spokesman Peter Lerner said on Wednesday. The PA subsequently sacked Fattuh.

A new fleet of Heron-1 UAV’s (unmanned aerial vehicles), made by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) are soon to be deployed by the Israel Air Force for coastal air patrol. The new Herons will replace most manned air patrols, easing the burden on flight and ground crews, Globes reports. Flying at an altitude of 32,000 feet, the Heron-1 can stay aloft for more than 50 hours. The missile threats on significant portions of Israel’s borders may require Israel to order to F-35B Short Takeoff and Vertical Landing (STOVL) planes which can take off with a heavy load on short runways only 170 meters long, and can land practically anywhere.

A new Freedom House report, “Discrimination and Intolerance in Iran’s Textbooks,” finds that the Islamic Republic is teaching its children to embrace Islamic supremacism, preparing them to enter a political system that discriminates against women and non-Muslims. “The discourse of the textbooks has not been written with the concept of equality of all human beings, as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,” the study concludes. “In the textbooks’ reasoning, human beings cannot be equal with one another on this earth….Some individuals are born first-class citizens, due to their identity, gender, and way of thinking, while others become second- and third-class citizens.” “In the Farsi textbooks of Grades 1 through 11, 31 lessons discuss martyrdom and death for the sake of religious or political beliefs,” the study notes.

Gaza’s Hamas government is funding its bureaucracy and rocket-launchers through fees on license plates, birth certificates and the like; taxes on smuggled cigarettes and other items; and aid from Islamic and Arab allies. Cigarettes smuggled through tunnels are taxed at $3 a pack, increasing the price to $5. Hamas also charges a levy of $3,000 from each of 150 underground- tunnel operators. Hamas has also taken over sales of one thing that dune-abundant Gaza has plenty of - sand. Construction companies, which use sand for cement, used to harvest it free. Now, Hamas sells it.

The exhibit was created by a body named “The National Committee for the Defense of Children from the Holocaust.”

Iran is making huge efforts to upgrade the Syrian army and provided Syria with more than $1 billion to buy surface-to-surface missiles, rockets, anti-tank missiles and anti-aircraft systems. Syria is buying more missiles than tanks, on the assumption that attacking the Israeli home front would deter Israel and help to determine the war. The London-based Asharq Alawsat newspaper reported in July 2007, during Iranian President Ahmadinejad’s visit to Damascus, that he promised Bashar Assad that Iran would finance Russian and North Korean weapons deals for $1 billion. In exchange, Syria reportedly undertook not to proceed with the peace process with Israel.

FEBRUARY SEES 200,000 TOURISTS ARRIVE IN ISRAEL: (Ynet News)
February 2008 saw 200,000 tourists arrive in Israel, an increase of 46% in comparison to 2007. The U.S. tops the list, providing more than a quarter of all tourists, followed by France and Russia. Poland, Italy, Ukraine, Germany and England also rank high. Individuals from China and Korea are also beginning to show a keen interest.

Israel will finally equip its commercial aircraft with anti-missile systems as a result of concrete threats that terrorists will try to shoot them down.
