The Hizbullah terrorist organization late Tuesday night February 12 lost a top commander in a powerful car bombing the group said was carried out by Israeli operatives in Damascus. Imad Mughniyeh, considered to be the mastermind behind most, if not all of Hizbullah’s terror attacks, was one of the group’s most senior commanders in Lebanon. He lived in hiding for years and was able to evade the public eye until Tuesday night’s attack. An unconfirmed report by Iranian sources said Hajj Hussein Halil, politburo director and deputy to Hizbullah chief terrorist Hassan Nasrallah, also was killed in Tuesday night’s car bombing. Hizbullah has not commented.

A senior government official in Kuwait hinted Tuesday February 12, that Gulf States are expecting and waiting for Israel to destroy Iran’s nuclear reactor before the security situation reaches critical mass. Former US Ambassador to the UN, John Bolton, said during his speech at the 8th Herzilya Conference last month that an Israeli strike might be the last chance to stop Iran from completing a nuclear weapon. Former Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz, who also spoke at the conference, also hinted that the military option is growing more likely.

Israeli security agencies are watching the northern border closely Thursday February 14, as the burial of a top Hizbullah commander takes place on the third anniversary of the assassination of Lebanon’s anti-Syrian, pro-democracy former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. Israeli embassies around the world have been warned by the General Security Service (Shin Bet) to raise their alert status in anticipation of threatened retaliation for the assassination of Hizbullah’s second-in-command, arch-terrorist Imad Mughniyeh. The U.S. had offered $5 million for information that would lead to the capture or conviction of Mughinyeh, widely accepted as the Number 2 leader in Hizbullah, second only to Nasrallah himself. Mughniyeh was responsible for the murders of hundreds of Americans and Jews in terrorist attacks throughout the Middle East and in South America.

Palestinian Authority sources quoted by the Bethlehem-based Ma’an news agency reported that Israel killed two Hamas terrorists in Egyptian territory in recent days. The Hamas gunmen crossed into Sinai during the period when the border lay open and were killed by IDF Special Forces as they approached Israel. Army soldiers Wednesday night February 13, arrested 13 more wanted terrorists in Judea and Samaria, following the arrest of 70 terrorists the night before. There were no injuries, and security personnel are interrogating those arrested.

RUSSIA WARNS IRAN ON MISSILES AND URANIUM ENRICHMENT:
Russia warned Iran on Wednesday February 13, that its development of rockets and continued uranium enrichment was creating the impression Tehran was intentionally ignoring the concerns of the international community. “We do not approve of Iran’s actions in constantly demonstrating its intentions to develop its rocket sector and continue enriching uranium,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

U.S EXPANDS SANCTIONS ON SYRIA:
The White House on Wednesday February 13 issued an order expanding sanctions against Syria imposed in 2004, saying the nation’s leaders have engaged in a pattern of violating human rights in their own country and harmed the peace and stability of other nations in the region, including Iraq.
