Jacques Gauthier, a non-Jewish Canadian lawyer who spent 20 years researching the legal status of Jerusalem, has concluded: “Jerusalem belongs to the Jews, by international law.” Gauthier has written a doctoral dissertation on the topic of Jerusalem and its legal history, based on international treaties and resolutions of the past 90 years. The dissertation runs some 1,300 pages, with 3,000 footnotes. Gauthier had to present his thesis to a world-famous Jewish historian and two leading international lawyers - the Jewish one of whom has represented the Palestinian Authority on numerous occasions.

This, in honor of “International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust,” which the United Nations has set for today. The UN resolution setting January 27 as the date for international remembrance of the Holocaust was passed in November 2005, more than 60 years after the end of World War II.

Al-Qaeda is using teenagers as suicide bombers in Iraq, U.S. Rear Admiral Gregory Smith claimed on Sunday January 27, as Sheikh Ahmed Abdul Ghafour al-Samarraie, moderate but influential head of the Sunni endowment, urged the jihadists to stop “strapping bombs to children.” Smith said two suicide attacks in Iraq last week had been carried out by 15-year-olds. “We are not sure whether one of these children even knew he was being used to deliver a bomb.”
IRAN AMASSING RAW MATERIAL FOR URANIUM ENRICHMENT:
The head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, Gholamreza Aghazadeh, said on Thursday January 24, that Iran was continuing to amass the raw material for uranium enrichment. Aghazadeh said Iran had now stockpiled 250 tons of uranium hexafluoride gas (UF6), the feedstock that is injected into centrifuges for enrichment into fuel.
ISLAMISTS PLANNED ATTACKS ACROSS EUROPE:
Islamist extremists were planning attacks across Europe, especially against public transport, before their recent arrests in Barcelona, the Spanish paper El Pais reported Saturday January 26. Two pairs with explosive-filled bags were to enter separate Barcelona subway stations and other members of the group were to detonate their bombs by remote control, a would-be attacker turned informant said. Two other suicide bombers had been assigned targets elsewhere in Spain, another was to attack Germany, three were given objectives in France and two more were to strike Portugal. (Reuters)

FINAL NUCLEAR FUEL SHIPMENT TO IRAN ARRIVES FROM RUSSIA:
Russia completed the series of shipments of uranium fuel to power Iran’s first nuclear plant on Monday January 28. The final, eighth shipment arrived overnight from Russia to the southern port city of Bushehr and consisted of 8.6 metric tons of uranium fuel. The first shipment arrived in December, and created much controversy, in light of Iran’s continued insistence on the right to enrich its own uranium for what it claims in a civilian-only nuclear program.
REPORT: ISRAELI SECURITY DELEGATION SECRETLY VISITS CAIRO: (Jerusalem Post)
An Israeli defense delegation secretly visited Cairo on Monday January 28 and discussed the Gaza-Egypt border situation with top Egyptian officials, the London-based Asharq Alawsat reported Tuesday. The delegation was reportedly led by Defense Ministry Diplomatic-Military Bureau head Maj.-Gen. (res.) Amos Gilad.

Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood is strengthening its appeal by using images of Palestinians in Gaza to provoke wider protests against President Mubarak’s 26-year-old government. Demonstrations throughout the country by the Muslim Brotherhood ostensibly have been staged to declare Egyptian solidarity with Gaza, but they are also aimed at weakening Mubarak, who is accused of oppression and close ties to Washington. An Israeli company is taking part in the development of a hydrogen-powered car. The Israeli program, developed in cooperation with Russian and German researchers, has recently completed designing and testing a lightweight and safe hydrogen tank for use in cars. The greatest challenge facing developers in recent years has been developing hydrogen tanks insulated well enough not to pose a fire hazard while remaining light enough to allow the vehicle’s weight to remain movable. The development company, now claims to have developed prototypes that store double the amount of hydrogen of currently available tanks. The new tank would weigh 50 kg (110 pounds) and run a vehicle for 600 km (373 miles).
